About Us:
Zinduka’s Mission

As a nonprofit organization, we are committed to ensuring that girls and women in Kenya can live free from female genital mutilation (FGM/C) and shape their own futures.

Through educational programs and community-based projects, we create safe spaces for dialogue and awareness-raising, empower individuals to take responsibility for their own lives, and support long-term processes of change within communities.
Our work is carried out in close collaboration with local partner organizations and communities and is based on trust, respect, and sustainability. In this way, we create opportunities that have an impact beyond individual projects—for today and for future generations.

Even before I turned 18, I was drawn to Kenya, without knowing exactly what to expect there.
Once there, I encountered the reality of female genital mutilation for the first time and saw how many girls are affected by it.
At the same time, I met inspiring women and dedicated individuals who were already advocating for girls’ rights at a young age. They showed me that lasting change comes from within society itself.
Comparing my own childhood to others, I realized how unequally opportunities are distributed. This led to my decision to empower girls and young women to shape their own lives.

I grew up in Migori County, Kenya. In my family and community, female genital mutilation was considered the norm. My father was convinced that this was the only way we would be accepted. When he asked me at age eight if I would go through with it, I said I was still too young. Later, he kept trying to convince me.

When I finally decided against it, he got angry. He hit us and made it clear that he didn't want to spend money on uncircumcised girls. Still, I dreamed of going to college. My experiences became my motivation to empower other girls.

Our Team in Kenya

The Zinduka team in Kenya is responsible for on-the-ground implementation. Our colleagues work closely with the communities, plan and carry out projects together with the participants, and continuously support sustainable change.

Our Team in Germany

In Germany, we support our on-the-ground work through targeted fundraising and public relations efforts. In doing so, we ensure that donations go directly to our projects. At the same time, we provide a platform for our partners in Kenya to share their perspectives, thereby strengthening global dialogue and working together to overcome barriers.

Our Partners

Together with our partners and all our supporters, we’re making a difference. Thank you for your trust and your support!

The Zinduka Association

Founded in 2016 in Marburg, Zinduka e.V. now builds bridges between Germany and Kenya. For many years, we have been passionately committed to empowering girls and their communities in four regions of Kenya. Together with local partners, we train community leaders, support families, and create the safe spaces necessary for the journey toward true equality.
